Oh, by the way...

If you think women have the right to own property, I'd avoid the Spare Time Shop. The store owner said some very offensive things about some of the people reading this when I stopped in to see if he had any Earthdawn books yesterday. I'm glad he didn't.

PS - Anyone who was wondering what Zelenka was doing at the beginning of Echoes? He was using my MQP to study Atlantis.

And so did my graduate program chair. He told me that it was a good thing when I broke up with my boyfriend in my second year of the program because women take care of men and if I had a boyfriend there's no way I could be a successful graduate student.

Just because someone's old or from a different culture doesn't mean that they have the right to say and act upon that sort of filth in our modern culture.

Umm... I'd like to point out that we have not actually heard/read what he said.

This is not to say that what he said was or was not offensive, or that etherial is lying or overreacting to what was said.

All we know is that etherial was upset about what was said. We are interpretting what was said through his filter.

Nor is he here to defend what he said or to apologize or what not...

You are correct, etherial didn't explicitly state what the proprietor said, but there's heavy implications.

If you think women have the right to own property... If he was making general sexist comments, I'd totally quote them... make derogatory comments about your competitors

I was assuming he said something to the effect of "bitches shouldn't be allowed to own shops," and I took your comment to mean "he's old so it's ok if he says things like that," which now that I think about it probably isn't what you meant either. :-P I admit to sensitivity when I think people are defending biases such as racism and sexism - biases are bad enough on their own, but they only continue to exist b/c people who are unbiased defend them or at least don't bother to call them out on their bias.
