Serenity RPG

So, on the one hand, I promised everyone who actually bothered to sign up for my Serenity RPG that they could play, on the theory that its once-in-a-while status meant that not everyone was expected to be there every game. On the other hand, my players who haven't made a character yet are desperately seeking a "Niche". Other than Reader (which is banned), What am I missing?

Jayne would probably qualify as a Mercenary of some kind. He's pretty two-dimensional, though, so people tend to shy away from his Niche.
