OK, seriously. I am no longer interested in considering this sleeping problem entirely psychological. Where do I investigate the sleep problem further?
Talk to your doctor. They will then refer you to either a neurologist or a sleep study [which is a uniquely unfun experience]. You'll almost definitely need to go to your primary healthcare practitionary first for initial diagnosis, but mostly for the referral for insurance purposes. Your doctor may be willing to handwave this part and give you a referral over the phone if (s)he's cool.
You could also consider herbal/homeopathic remedies. Melatonin is a good over the counter that helps to regulate the circadian cycle. I had good results with it in the past, other members of my family also did.
