Plume's Dilemma

From the Journal of Jik'escala, T'Skrang Swordswoman Extraordinaire:
17 Riag, 1423 T.H.
A cloud of Windlings descended upon the Gates of Throal, and rumor spread like wildfire that their town had been overrun by strange animal attacks. Quis'Tan and I spoke with one of the village leaders and soon we were off with Fenrir, a Windling from another village, and Teddy, a charming Troll Air Sailor of all things.
23 Riag
The road to Bortruk's Passing was easy enough, but the village itself was well-secluded, even from the animals of the forest. No game trails, watering holes, nesting grounds, or other sites where animals congregated was nearby, so why the animal attacks? We spotted the dessicated corpse of a monkey that had died from some advanced wasting disease, and that confirmed our darkest fears: Horrors! We were not far from the Windling Runic Circle and proceeded to try and measure the extent of the taint and whether that particular sacred site had been affected.
23 Riag (continued)
Clearly defaced with runes written in blood, the runic circle had ceased to be a place of calm and healing and instead it drove all animals who came near it into mad creatures bent only on destruction. The animals, some gorillas and monkeys in number, as well as Fenrir's menagerie, approached the runic circle, and any who touched it were imbued with a consuming aura of aggression and hatred. We quickly went to work trying to prevent the few animals who had not touched the circle from getting tainted, and putting down those that had become tainted irrevocably. We scrubbed the runic circle clean, dispelling the effect, but its origin remains unknown.
PCs:
Fenrir, male Windling Shaman
Jik'escala, female T'Skrang Swordmaster
Ludvikt Yun "Teddy" Ruddermun, male Troll Air Sailor
Quis'Tan, Obsidiman Spirit Rider
NPCs:
Plume Cloudytwirls, Windling Elder
