How to learn to drive in an Ideal world:
1. Learn to drive.
2. Drive.

How to learn to drive in the Real World:
1. Learn to drive.
2. Get License.
3. Get Insurance.
4. Get Registration (Note: Steps 3 and 4 each have to happen AFTER the other).
5. Get a couple DWYs.
6. Get into a couple accidents.
7. Take a good hard look at your Insurance Policy.

Yeah, the speed limit on that road SHOULD be 15 MPH more. Yeah, the Ticket doesn't really seem all that bad, especially considering you actually WERE speeding. But the thousands of dollars you'll pay in Insurance over the Years doesn't get mentioned anywhere up front.

Vacation isn't over yet, and I still HATE THE WORLD.

Rule #1: Always take a ticket to court. You stand a surprisingly good chance of getting it dismissed. Should something like this happen in the future, I suggest talking to people who have successfully fought such tickets for tips and pointers.

I can look up the "how to not get a speeding ticket" e-mail I got a while ago and e-mail it to you (which incidentally was looked at by a couple of cops who said "yup, those are good tips for avoiding a ticket, both before and after you get pulled over"), even though it's sorta closing the barn after the horse has fled. . .

I fought every ticket I could and won. I can't fight them anymore since I only get Federal Holidays off. Feel free to forward that email to me, they are good tips and I can never remember them.
